A Treasure Hunt & Binoculars Craft for momstown KW Little Explorers at momstown Movers Program

We had a ton of fun this month with our "Little Explorers" theme at momstown Movers

We made paper tube binoculars!

First we had painted paper tubes ready to go, then we took a piece of paper and glued it around 2 tube to make the binoculars.

Then we decorated our binoculars with stickers, shapes, flower, glitter and markers.

Finally we added pipe cleaners to the outer sides to make a nice rope to use around our neck.

And to add to the explorer fun, we had a treasure hunt.

We had a list of fun things to find:

There were cute flash cards all over the place to find with our binoculars.

And we we found all the items on our list we had more fun playing with each other and all the fun toys available at the church.

Next week at momstown Movers we will be having a musically fun time with Music for Young Children!

Hope to see you there!

"According to Canada's National Missing Children's Services Reference Report, a total of 50,492 children were reported missing in 2009. Collectively, the partnership that makes up this official group provides a unique and powerful force in location and recovering missing children."

That is a eye opening quote found on the RCMP Foundation website.

We also had time for a toddler version of basketball to help develop hand eye -coordination

And we did some table top bowling too:

Then it was snack time with social time for moms and tots alike.

Expectant Moms Get Crafty at Belly Basics Program

As many new moms quickly find out, their newborn infants' closet will contain more clothing than their own collection! And that adorable newborn will also grow out of them faster than you can say how adorable they look in that outfit!
So, at momstown KW's brand new FREE program for expectant moms called Belly Basics, we all created our own closet dividers! This simple and inexpensive craft will help to keep a baby's closet organized and help keep baby brain at bay as they start nesting or picking out an outfits for their bundle of joy.
You can organize the closet a bunch of different ways!

First, these can help you organize by size. Newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and so on. This is especially handy since not all baby sizes are the same. If you try on a 0-3 outfit and find it too big, simply rehang it in the 3-6 month section!
Another option, which is great for older babies, is to arrange by season. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. Since 6-12 month sizes range over 2 seasons, you can have 6-12 month t-shirts in the spring/summer section and long sleeved shirts in the fall/winter section!
You can use a bunch of different supplies to create your own dividers. Foam or cardboard would be your best option though. Then have fun with stickers, markers, different scrapbook papers, ribbon and pretty much anything found at the dollarstore!
What are some ways that you help to keep your child's clothes organized?
Share your techniques with us below or come out next time and share with everyone!

momstown KW Shakes and Rattles at Baby Basics Program for Kitchener-Waterloo Moms

Baby Basics is a momstown weekly program that is designed to provide a fun environment
for new moms and their babies to interact and play. Each week we alternate
between a guest speaker and a craft and this week our
momstown KW moms all made our own musical baby shaker!
After we all sang a song and read a cute story the crafter in every mom came out with
the craft supplies. It's amazing how you can turn something as simple and useless
as an empty toilet paper roll into something so fun and amazing for any baby!

Here's what you'll need to create your own musical shaker:

-empty toilet paper roll
-clear packing tape
-markers/crayons
-dry beans

Color your toilet paper roll into a fun scene or shapes in bright colors! Tape the bottom and add your beans into the toilet paper roll until it's about 1/3 full.
Tape the top, so the beans don't shake out!
Tape up the sides so when the shaker inevitable ends up in your babies mouth it's safe
and ba boom...musical shaker your baby will spend hours playing with!
Have fun and we'll see you next week!

Spaceships Fly at momstown Movers and Little Scientists Programs

Today momstown KW played with magnets at the Little Scientists portion of momstown Movers.

We used paper cut out in the shape of spaceships and decorated them.

Then we attached a paperclip to one end before picking them up with a magnet. The results was a magical, flying spaceship!

And who can resist parachute play! We bounced balls in the parachute and made a tent too. We even floated it in the air and as it landed we all pulled it on top of us like a blanket and pretended to sleep.

Next week at momstown Movers we are looking forward to an energetic morning of moving and grooving with our special guest speaker from Wee Wigglers!

Family Trees for the letter "T" at Alphabet Play Program in Kitchener-Waterloo

To celebrate the letter "T" at our Alphabet Play program, momstown KW moms and tots read a bright & colourful book about Tigger and Pooh's "On the Colour Case".

Followed by a Family Tree craft
Each child pick out a pre printed picture of a tree. Then added colourful leaves before picking out pictures of their family members.  This girls tree had a Mom, Dad, sister and brother:

We added everyones names and the date for a special keepsake craft to look back on years from now.

Both the book and the craft incorporated the use of different colours.

A mini pizza party finished off the fun for the evening!

Join us next month at Alphabet Play to make paper umbrella for the letter "U".

Scholastic Canada Gives momstown KW an Alligator Baby!

As part of momstown KW's commitment to early education and literacy,
Scholastic generously donates books every month to our
weekly Baby Basics program and our monthly Tales for Tots program!

This month, the book we gave away at Baby Basics was Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch!
This adorable board book is the story of how a mother and father "lose" their baby at the zoo
and return home with an interesting mix of babies!

Thankfully, our winner Avery, is far too cute to be mistaken for an alligator baby,
but is sure to enjoy this hilarious story for years to come!
Congratulations Jenny and Avery and thank you to Scholastic for continuing to
support momstown's commitment to early literacy and education!

Next month, we are excited to be giving away Rain, Rain, Go Away
so come on out to Baby Basics and you could win too!
