You have heard about blogging and all the ways you can journal your thoughts into a casual essay but do you know how blogging can affect your mental health?
Here at momstown.ca, we create communities of moms across Canada, that are local, busy and looking for ways to connect with our moms. We provide many types of opportunities for our mama members to connect with neighbourhood moms both in and out of the house. One of the ways we accomplish this, is through blogging. We not only blog about our events and activities happening, we blog about our lives, mommy moments and the multitude of milestones that our children go through. Through our blogging, we are providing unbiased, mental support to our readers, that give moms a place to "go to" for answers, advice and sanity. As moms, we all know how important it is to feel healthy mentally in order to be the best moms that we can be. We crave information and testimonials and rely heavily on hearing other moms' experiences to feel like we are doing the right thing for our children. This is the value of peer to peer support.
Ask any mom who has children that are 6 and older if they wished they had a support system when their children were younger, and they would say, "You betcha!" I think this is the most common thing I hear, is that "I wish there was something like this when my kids were younger".
So, we can't go back in time, but what we can do now, is provide a community-based support system for Canadians that is proving to be the #1 way to prevent Post-Partum Depression. We can blog and let moms everywhere know that they are not isolated or alone, they are connected. And they are connected in their own neighbourhoods.
