momstown KW Book Club Get Sponsored by Scholastic Canada with The False Prince

Every month momstown KW moms gather inside Chapters to discuss the book of the month and anything else that's on their minds. This month, Scholastic sponsored our Book Club and gave momstown moms a copy of The False Prince to take home and read.

This is the first book in a trilogy where an orphan is forced in to a twisted game where he must either lie or die. As the main character, Sage, moves from a rundown orphanage into a large palace, treachery and deceit begins to unfold chapter by chapter, twist by twist.

Without giving away the biggest twist of all, this book was easy for our moms to relate to as we all live lives full of twists and turns; hopes and dreams.

Some of us had a difficult time finding the time to actually read the book, because, well, we're mothers with small children. But once we started reading it was hard to put the book down.

In summary, this was an easy and fun read for all ages and we are excited for the release of the second book, The Runaway King!

Happy reading and thank you to Scholastic for continuing to support momstown's commitment to literacy!

Supperworks - Making It Easy to Bring Your Family Back to the Dinner Table!

So, if you are anything like me I am sure you can relate. You rush to pick up the kids, race home with starving children and frantically make a courageous effort to put a nutritious dinner on the table before it is time for bath, book, bed.  This was my daily routine until I discovered the best kept secret among moms - SupperWorks!  If someone had told me how quickly life would get crazy once you add those adorable little people to your life, I wonder where I would be today! Inevitably what started off as a way to feed my growing family and ease my mommy guilt quickly became a way for me to help put smiles on the faces of other busy parents!

Spend an hour with us in the SupperWorks kitchen and put together 6 different family sized entrees. We offer 14 entrees to choose from each month and there is something there for everyone. Even my picky 4 year old! With you in the kitchen your entrees are still made with love. You know your family best and can alter the recipe to suit your needs. Reduce the spice or add extra garlic, you choose!  For those extra busy families let us put your entrees together for you. Simply pick them up, fill your freezer and enjoy great meals and more time with your family.

Some other ways SupperWorks can help ease the dinner time dilemma. Our Stork Special offer is there to help new parents. Call us to place your order of 6, 9 or 12 entrees and the SupperWorks team will prepare your suppers for you at no additional fee!

Feeling inspired?  Check out our monthly online calendar and join us Saturdays for our Bring your child sessions. You and a helper (aged 4-12) can prepare your meals together.  This makes for some great one on one time to teach your child about following a recipe and being safe in the kitchen.  For me it is a great opportunity to get my children to try different things as they are so proud of what they help to make

I hope SupperWorks can do for your family what it has done for mine - bring us back to the dinner table!

Happy eating!

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo Gets Hoppy at Baby Basics Program

With Easter just around the corner, momstown Kitchener-Waterloo moms and babies made fun Easter foot print crafts this week at Baby Basics to help celebrate this Spring holiday!

Every month at Baby Basics Picasso's, we do a foot print or hand print craft so we can remember just how tiny our little bundles were 5...10...20 years from now. This month we made Easter bunnies and carrots!

These were super easy to do! For the bunnies paint the entire foot in the color of your choice and with toes pointing down make your print! Then color some ears and a fluffy white tail and your bunny is ready for Easter! Fun captions could be "Hoppy Easter" or "Some Bunny Loves You"!

The carrot was a bit harder, but still really easy. Paint your baby's foot orange, leaving the toes and a little bit of the top of the foot to be painted green. After the green bits are done, make your print with the toes pointing either up or to the side! After the paint has dried, use an orange crayon or marker to make the ridges in your carrot!

See, easy as Easter pie!

Kitchener-Waterloo Toddlers & Preschoolers Celebrate the Letter U at momstown Movers Program

Today at momstown Movers, our toddlers and preschoolers celebrated the letter U.  We started with circle time including the alphabet song and nursery rhymes.

Then we gathered at the tables to make an umbrella picture!

We used small paper plates cut in half and shaped like umbrella hoods. Then we added a colourful pipe cleaner handle before we all decorated the umbrellas to make them special!

Adding the words "U is for UMBRELLA" on the bottom helped us recognized the letter U and associate it with the word umbrella.

Of course, there was some awsome play time at the end to let our glue dry and get our wiggles out.

It was so much fun we can't wait to see what's in store for the letter V next month!

Junior Chefs Make Rocketship Fruit Sticks at momstown KW

Today at Jr. Chef our toddler and preschoolers made Rocketship Fruit Sticks.

We had a variety of washed and sliced fresh fruit all ready to go. We pushed the fruit onto skewer sticks and made some blast off sounds as we munched on our healthy snack.

Jr Chef this month fell just before St Patricks day so we also made Shamrock Shakes. We used green peppermint stick ice cream and milk in the blender for a sweet green treat.

It was so much fun to get all dressed in green and create our snacks today!

Next month we are going to make Chinese Dumplings!

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo Bellies Become Work of Art!

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo has launched a brand new FREE program called Belly Basics, and are excited to be partnering with The Nesting Instinct
This is a great new resource for expecting moms in the Kitchener-Waterloo area to
connect, bond, be supported, get crafty and of course, have lots of fun!

There is nothing more beautiful than a big, pregnant belly!
So, this week, Bre Creative came out and painted a beautiful work of art on each one!

At first, the moms were quite shy to bare their belly, as many woman are.
But bravely, one by one, belly buttons poked out and were beautifully
covered up with sparkles, rainbows, unicorns, pink bows and butterflies!
This little girl loved seeing a giraffe on her mommy's belly!
By the end, each mom was giggling and laughing as the
paintbrush tickled their bellies and their babies kicked away!
Here are some of the beautiful works of art that each belly became!

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo gets Hippity Hoppity at Annual Easter Egg Party!

It's hard to believe that Easter is over and done with.
It seems like this holiday just hopped right up on us!

But with blue skies and warm Spring weather, momstown Kitchener-Waterloo
celebrated this fun holiday at our Hippity Hoppity Easter Party

Excited tots and families were lined up, dressed in their Easter best,
ready for the start of the party and a fun Easter Scavenger Hunt!
Clue by clue, families were led around to each station at our party!  We aren't sure who enjoyed the scavenger hunt more, the kids or the dads :)

There was the HUGE bouncy castle that even had some of the
parents bouncing around like the Easter Bunny!
Art Innovators sponsored our craft. They had the children drawing and coloring
Easter eggs onto a piece of sandpaper. The kids loved it and the effect was so neat!
We had mini golf and Pin the Tail on the Bunny!
Which really turned into a fun game of pin the fur on the bunny!

And of course Straight Thru Films and Photography
was there to take a cute Easter photo keepsake!

Here's just a few of our momstown cuties!

So hoppy to see that everyone had a great time!  Check out all our pictures from our Easter event on our facebook fan page.

Happy Easter from momstown KW

momstown KW Ballets with Barbie at Star Performance Dance Academy for Music & Movement

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo hosted a very special Music and Movement event this March, for little girls and big.  Our event featured ballet and Barbie, to promote the Barbie™ In The Pink Shoes movie, the latest release available on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack & DVD!

Barbie™ in the Pink Shoes is an exciting ballet movie in which Barbie™ stars as Kristyn, the hard-working dancer, who wows the big ballet company in her performance of Giselle and Swan Lake. Through this journey Kristyn learns that when you dance from your heart – your dreams can come true.

The Star Performance Dance Academy in Waterloo graciously hosted us for this fabulous event, and even provided a Ballet Barbie to teach us!  And yes, they call her Barbie.  They led us through some fancy dancey Ballet moves, all child-focused and then had us skipping, marching and crawling across the room.  Soon we were dancing in circles, and with each other!  The girls were mesmerized with the Royal Tutu on Barbie and her proper pink satin shoes.

After all our skipping and spinning, we settled down to create our very own little ballerina's.  We gave them coloured tutu's, princess crown's, ballet shoes, ponies, castles and anything else pretty that would stick.  Even the babies were admiring the paper ballerina's :)

What is a special party without cupcakes and punch right?  And of course, they had to be pink!
This is one happy mom, she is the lucky raffle winner and gets to take home a copy of the Barbie™ In The Pink Shoes movie!
Our biggest surprise of the day was definitely our Barbie Photo Booth.  It was handmade by our very own event coordinator, Lindsay.  Isn't it super cute?  The girls couldn't wait to climb in and pose for their mommies.  All we were missing was a red (or pink) carpet, to complete the paparazzi moment.   Do you see a tired Barbie below?

After all the dance lessons, crafting, cupcakes and punch, our little ballerina's were looking forward to their play and social time. They brought out their Barbie dolls and started to play when Star Performance Dance Academy brought in one last surprise for them all.  Balloons for everyone!  And now that the girls had full bellies, gotten crafty, danced & played, it was time to head home for lunch, with a blue balloon in hand.
Thank you so much to everyone that partied with us and help make this a beautiful Barbie Ballet day!
