Yummy French Toast Meal at Junior Chef and momstowm KW

Junior Chef was so fun this month!

We made French Toast!

The kids had a great time getting in on the ooey gooey fun of breaking the eggs:

 And dipping the bread:

And of course, eating it!

We made French toast as a part of our monthly theme of birds.

Here is the logic:

*A chicken is a bird

*Chickens lay eggs

*Eggs can make French Toast

Pretty imaginative, I'd say!

Next week momstown Movers will be learning a colour activity in Make and Take.

Hope to see you there!

Celebrating the Letter Z at Alphabet Play with momstown KW

Every Wednesday momstown KW hosts a program called momstown Movers.

This mama and  tot program is designed for moms with toddlers and preschoolers aged 15 months to age 4 as well as moms with more than 1 child.
It is a great weekly program for moms  to let their little movers play and learn  together while moms connect.

momstown Movers rotates between Alphabet Play, Junior Chef,  Little Scientists and Tales for Tots as well as other fun activities each week.

This week we celebrated the letter Z as a part of the Alphabet Play portion of the program.

Moms and tots spent time shouting out words that begin with Z between laughs and giggles.

There was also a craft where everyone pasted the letter Z to construction paper and decorated with all sorts of fun embellishments!

Then some of the kids put together an alphabet foam puzzle before we all sang the famous Alphabet Song!

Be sure to check out momstown KW :  http://kitchener-waterloo.momstown.ca/
for momstown Movers and all of the other fantastic programming available to you and you children nearly every day of the week, all year round!

Join us at the Telling Tales Festival - September 15, 2013

Mark the Date: Sunday, September 15th, 2013
for the Telling Tales Festival!

As you pass through the Westfield Heritage Village "Gates of Time", you will be delighted to discover a world that existed before the internet and video/computer games… Here life can be simple, and stories come alive! Storytellers will hold crowds spellbound in the Native Village.

Preschoolers especially will find a world of things to do in our Large Meadow: Musicians, puppet shows, “learning through play”, crafts and much more. Plan to visit the Telling Tales Giant Book Swap and Shop Tent, a place to bring your slightly worn children's books, donate them to literacy and, if you choose, purchase second hand titles for just loonies and toonies.

Find out more information here: www.TellingTales.org

PLUS! don't forget to like them on Facebook to participate in contests happening from now until the Festival!

momstown KW Moms and Tots "Let it Shine" at Tales for Tots.

Once a month at momstown KW ,our momstown Movers program is sponsored by Scholastic Canada.

This month we were given the book " Let It Shine"

A sweet book about summer fun and the coming of autumn.

The book fit well with the monthly creative theme of "deserts".

And so did our craft that followed:

We made sand castles on paper!

After drawing the outline of our castles, we used glue to add fun foam and sparkles

The results was some awesome, blinged-out, art!

We also had social and play time:

Right before this lucky winner took home the book we read:

Thanks again Scholastic Canada!

Can You Separate Sand and Salt? momstown KW Can!

Guess what we did at Little Scientists this month?

We separated sand mixed with salt.

Here's how:

  • Mix sand and salt together

  • Stir the mixture into water
  • filter the water through a coffee filter
What you have left with is salty water and sand in the filter

Now, to get the salt back, boil the filtered water until nothing but salt remains!

Pretty cool huh?

Don't forget, our momstown Movers program isn't all work... there is always social time for moms and playtime for kids too!

Join us next week for a special Junior Chef sponsored by Et Tu!

momstown KW Babies Splash and Play with Scholastic

At momstown KW, every week our new moms get together at Baby Basics to chat and let the babies play! Some weeks we have a guest speaker, some weeks we have a craft, but this week we had a pool party!

Complete with baby pool and sunshine, we let the babies splash and play!
We set out two smaller bins for them to explore as well. One of them was filled with water and ice so they could play with the ice and feel the temperature difference of the water. The other one was filled with warmer water and some more toys!
And of course we had a baby pool! This one was filled with warm water and lots of baby water toys so they could splish and splash and get soaking wet!

Every month Baby Basics is also sponsored by Scholastic! They're books are the perfect way to start the literary process and language development in babies. So, after all the babies were done playing and dried off, we sat down and ready 5 Little Puppies Jumping on the Bed

A first in a series of touch-and-feel nursery rhymes, this board book is a playful twist on the famous "Five Little Monkeys" song. Every page had a unique and plush touch-and-feel as the text highlights the puppies on their special page, allowing children to sing along and explore each appealing texture!
Congratulations to this mom and baby, this is sure to be a popular read at your home!
And thank you to Scholastic for once again for your commitment to sponsoring

Come on out next week and join the fun! Membership is only $45 for a full year!
