momstown KW Moves and Grooves with The Backyardigans

This month momstown joined forces with The Backyardigans for our Music and Movement program! 

It was a fun filled musical adventure full of dancing, stories, crafts and prizes! 

First, we all got our "sillies" out with some fun Backyardigans themed "dance moves"! 

We learned the "Silly Silly Shake", "Stretch to the Side", "Sit and Stretch" 

and lots more fun ways to move to the music! 

After a fun dance party, we all sat down for a fun Backyardigans story! 

Next it was time to use our imaginations and create our own starfish! 

Simply using some white glue, small round pasta and a starfish cut out (don't forget to help you little 

ones if they want to use the scissors) we were able to create these fun textured sea creatures! 

Finally, it was time for a fun "Pin the Glasses on Pablo" game! 

Though the fun seemed to be even better without the blindfold! HA!  

Finally, we ended with a prizes! Congratulations to all our winners! 

We gave away a family pack of tickets to go see The Backyardigans Live: Sea Deep in Adventure, coming to The Centre in the Square on March 18th! 

And a Backyardigans DVD and Phonics Book! 

After the end of it all, we all had an fun filled musical adventure along with our new friends! 

momstown KW Zooms into Jr Chef

Every week, momstown KW members gather for our weekly Laugh & Learn program. Each week, the activity rotates through Tales for Tots, Jr Chef, Little Scientists and Music and Movement! 

This week, was Jr Chef and following our monthly theme of 

Planes, Trains and Automobiles, we made fun little apple race cars!

This easy to do snack is a great way to get the kids into eating healthy, 

all while working their hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills!

momstown KW Gets Crafty with Superworm!

Once a month, Scholastic sponsors momstown KW's weekly Laugh & Learn program! 

This weekly program is great for any mom with a active family! 

Bring out all the kids for a fun filled day of fun and learning! 

This month at Laugh & Learn: Tales for Tots we read Superworm, by Julia Donaldson! 

If you love funny rhymes and brave heros, you will love this book! 

Superworm is not your ordinary hero with massive muscles. Nope: he's super skinny. 

But not weedy at all. When trouble strikes, this brave worm wriggles to the rescue. 

He can turn into a life-saving rope, and squiggle into really tiny spaces.

After a reading this fun story, we made our own planes, trains and automobiles using 

different sizes of squares, stickers and crayons!

The Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas,

When all through the house,

Not a creature was stirring,

Not even a mouse.

Unless that is you are at the monthly momstown KW Tales for Tots program! 

Then the tale would go something more like this:

'Twas the week before Christmas,

And all through momstown,

All the children were laughing,

There wasn't a frown! 

The children were all seated,
With plates and crayons,
Making special Santa plates,
Well...at least that was the plan.

With stickers and markers,
And crayons galore,
Tiny fingers went crazy,
but alas...there was no more! 

This month, Scholastic generously donated the book, The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore. Illustrated by Barbra Reid, her brilliant Plasticine art breathes new life into the classic poem - with a Canadian twist!

Snow Much Science!

What's the worst part about being a kid in the winter? Mittens! 

How can you possibly have any fun with that newly fallen fluffy white snow when you're wearing mittens?! Sure sure, you can always make a snowman or go tobogganing...but momstown KW decided to take it one step further with in our weekly Laugh & Learn program!

This week, during Little Scientists, we filled large buckets with snow and let the kids explore, sans mittens!

They had so much fun making mini snowmen, using cookie cutters to shape the snow and driving the train through the snow mountains! Plus, we learned what happened when we dyed the snow!

This is the perfect way to discover colors! 1 drop of red...1 drop of blue...WHOA it's purple! 

This is a great wintertime activity for all ages! Babies, toddlers, school age and adults! So, next time it's too cold to go outside and play, why not bring the outside inside!

momstown KW Kiss, Kisses Good Night at Baby Basics

Each month, momstown literacy sponsor, Scholastic donates 

a baby safe book to the Baby Basics program! 

This weekly program is the perfect place for moms with babies under a year old 

to get together and chat and bond, while creating their baby's first piece of art 

or learning about a topic relavent to their changing bodies or growing babies! 

This month, Scholastic donated Kiss, Kiss Good Night by Kenn Nesbitt. 

Surely this months winners will be curled up tonight reading this bedtime poem 

all about how mommy animals say good night to their little ones. 

D is for Decorating at momstown KW's Laugh & Learn's Alphabet Play

Each and every week, momstown KW's Laugh & Learn program alternates between Alphabet Play, Tales for Tots, Jr Chef and Little Scientist!

This week, it was time for Alphabet Play, which is deliciously sponsored by Alpha-bits Cereal!

This month, our featured letter was "Dd"! There were so many D possibilities it was hard to decide which one we wanted to make into a craft!

After much "debate" we "decided" on "D is for decorating" instead of "D is for Reindeer" (wink). Though we did get pretty creative on how to make a "D" into one!

So, out came the snowflakes, the pipecleaners, the glue, markers, sparkles and stickers and closely followed was the smiles as the toddlers decorated their snowflake!

These snowflakes all started out the same, but each quickly became its own unique masterpiece!
