momstown KW Gets Crafty with Superworm!

Once a month, Scholastic sponsors momstown KW's weekly Laugh & Learn program!
This weekly program is great for any mom with a active family!
Bring out all the kids for a fun filled day of fun and learning!

This month at Laugh & Learn: Tales for Tots we read Superworm, by Julia Donaldson
If you love funny rhymes and brave heros, you will love this book!
Superworm is not your ordinary hero with massive muscles. Nope: he's super skinny.
But not weedy at all. When trouble strikes, this brave worm wriggles to the rescue.
He can turn into a life-saving rope, and squiggle into really tiny spaces.

After a reading this fun story, we made our own planes, trains and automobiles using
different sizes of squares, stickers and crayons!
Thank you again to scholastic for sponsoring momstown's commitment to
literacy and learning! Join us next week for another fun Laugh & Learn!

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo Welcomes Kendra, our New Baby Program Coordinator!

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo is pleased to announce that we have a new Baby Program Coordinator, Kendra Seymour!

Aside from being an active momstown member for 2 years, a mom to a 2 year old, and newborn twins, Kendra also brings work and volunteer experience to us as well.  With 6 years in the mental health field currently, and a lifetime of volunteer experience in classrooms with her mom who is a school teacher, we are lucky to have her on our team.

Kendra has excitedly jumped in with both feet already and says "momstown has been a great way to connect with other moms for myself after my first child and I would like to help others make those connections too, while looking for something to keep me busy (even busier!) now that I’m on mat leave.  I just love working with kids!"

Watch for Kendra at all of our baby events, and more.  Welcome to momstown Kitchener-Waterloo Kendra!

Should You Wait Until the Spring to List Your Home?

SHOULD YOU WAIT UNTIL THE SPRING TO LIST YOUR HOME FOR SALE
(opposed to putting it on the market over the winter/holidays)?

Guest Blogger: Andy Geschi, ReMax Twin City

At this time of the year I have this conversation a lot!  I’m constantly meeting with sellers that really want to move NOW but feel they have to wait until the spring to put their home on the market, even when I am busy making Gingerbread Houses (check me out in my Holiday Chef hat!)

Let’s take a closer look.

On the surface, it seems that the “real estate market” is slow over the winter but the reality of our marketplace proves otherwise.   We track hundreds of sales EVERY month (including December and January).

Despite the fact that you may get fewer buyers coming to view your home over the holidays, those that do come are VERY SERIOUS about buying a home.

Think about it, if you were to put Christmas shopping and family time on hold to look at homes wouldn’t that mean you must be a MOTIVATED buyer!?

A Whole Lot of Family Holiday Fun at the momstown KW HO HO HO Holiday Party!

The stockings were all hung, on the wall with care.. in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.    And there he was, dancing with his reindeer!

momstown Kitchener-Waterloo families were delighted to find a hall full of fun surprises to celebrate the holiday season together, and with some local businesses too.  Even in the middle of our first winter blizzard!

Moms, dads, kids and babies all enjoyed a variety of fun activities in our Elf Workshop.  There were pipe cleaner candy canes, pom pom reindeers to craft and more.

Gingerbread House Making with Andy Geschi (the chef in the red hat) was a popular spot, and not just for the moms and babes, dads too were rolling up their sleeves and building too.  I am not sure who had more fun, the Andy Geschi team or the families?  Andy loves helping local families with their real estate needs and it showed with all fun being had with the Gingerbread Houses!

We also had Marcie from Cake Lovers Unite on hand, helping our families create festive and fun cupcakes.  And boy were they fancy!  There was piping and fondant and lots of little extras to add to each little moist cupcake.  You can see more of Marcie's goodies here on her facebook page.

Along with our Elf Workshop, we also had a Santa's Marketplace, giving Moms the option to add some "wishes" to their Christmas Lists (with a little nudge nudge to dad).  Lynette from Stella & Dot had her jewelry and purses on display, showing moms that everyday practical jewelry doesn't have to be boring.  Hogg Mechanical wanted to ensure all our families had heat and efficient furnaces to get them through the winter, handing out FREE thermostats and installing Peaksaver Plus as well.  Just in time for the ice storm and cold snap of winter!  Family Treasures also had some lovely gift ideas for mom, grandma, daughter, friend and more.  Teresa had so many of her handmade and stamped pieces set up - and you can see them all here on her Family Treasures Etsy Shop.  I have some gift ideas in mind already beyond Christmas!

Monkeynastix, a momstown favourite was in attendance too with all their fun equipment, keeping the kids active and busy.  Monkeynastix is a fun, challenging, noncompetitive movement education fitness program for children ages 1-8.  Check out their website and video to watch what actually happens in their classes.  One of our lucky moms went home with a gift certificate for a Monkeynastix Birthday Party!

Our families were definitely in the festive spirit and taking the time to enjoy their family time with us on this snowy, cold day.  We love creating moments like these below that remain captured in time and remind us what family is really about.  And of course, the joy of the season and our precious children.  Because of this, we also support the Tree of Angels to help families in the region that are less fortunate than we are.  Thank you to the families that donated a new unwrapped gift or cash donation this year!

Happy Holidays from momstown Kitchener-Waterloo and a Happy New Year!
