momstown KW Mamas Get Their GAME ON with Mattel Games Night - Moms Night Out!

 As moms, I don't think we get out as much and do fun things like we used.  In our new mom roles, we sometimes lose ourselves and aren't able to do all the activities we found fun before having children.  At momstown, we aim to bridge that gap by having regular Moms Night Out, with a variety of themes and activities.  Just for mom.  Our recent moms night out was sponsored by Mattel for a Game On Games Night.  FUN!    We were so anxious for this night to come, our staff was even making bets on who would take the winner's crown for Apples to Apples.  Seriously.   The battle was going to be epic and we were sure each other would win.

The box that Mattel sent us was loaded with games some of us new and loved, and new ones we have never played or tried.  It was hard to decide where to start and who play what game first.  But just like our personalities, we gravitated towards the game that we were comfortable with and went for it!  Mattel Game On even has a GAMEOLOGY app where you can get your reading of what kind of gaming personality you have.  Try it, is fun!  Like them on Facebook too for more gaming fun.

Do you prefer to play the strategic Blokus, the silly Mad Gab or creative Apples to Apples?  And who doesn't love a good game of Uno?  I remember many road trips that included endless fun games of Uno with my family.   Since being introduced to Apples to Apples through momstown, I am now a die-hard fan of the game and tell everyone it should be in their closet collection of family games.  And the momstown twist on the game makes it even more challenging.  We really sell our cards!

 As you can see, we were very intense in our Apples to Apples game.  The staff battle was the centre of the attention and the poor judges each round were nervous.  All in good fun though!

The epic staff battle came down to these 3 cards, the theme was Cruel and the 2 challengers - Adolf Hitler & Tornadoes.  Tornadoes won over the judge because of my description of what had just happened in Oklahoma and how cruel tornadoes really can be.  Not a good situation for those in Oklahoma but the example won me the game point that I needed.     







I may have been lucky enough to win the game that night but these ladies were even luckier, winning their very own copy of a Mattel game to take home to their families!  They will be encouraging a new generation of Mattel fans and good ole board game fun.

Our members loved this idea so much that we will definitely be having more Moms Games Nights Out!  Thank you Mattel.

Cake Decorating with The Urban Cakery

momstown KW gathered together for one of the yummiest events yet and learned the basics of cake decorating with Christa from The Urban Cakery. Christa taught our moms how to decorate a cake starting with her ever-faithful cake recipe and basic butter cream icing recipe!

 The Urban Cakery is a peanut-free bakery that Christa runs from her home when she isn’t chasing around her three children. For the first session, momstown KW learned how to properly ice a cake and how to ‘build a damn’ to contain crumbs and seal layers together. We learned all about the differences between fondant and butter cream icing. She even gave us homework – we had to Practice!

momstown KW rejoined for session two (and we had to bring our homework - an already baked cake). Those who were really ambitious came with it already iced. Christa helped each of us with whatever stage we came prepared for and some of us needed all the help we could get!

 What did momstown KW moms take away from this? Well, baking and decorating a cake isn’t as ‘easy’ as it looks and everyone left with a new appreciation for anyone who can decorate a cake! 

The Big Cook - Sponsored by Chateau Des Charmes Winery

Recently, momstown KW got together for The Big Cook! A huge thank you to Chateau Des Charmes Winery for sponsoring the event and providing us with four bottles of their delicious Generation Seven wine! We enjoyed two of the bottles during our prep and raffled off the other two to a lucky momstown KW member! 

The idea behind The Big Cook is to do all the prep work for a bunch of meals, freeze them, and then have great home cooked options available in the freezer for those days when you need something quick! With amazing recipes like Always a Winner Grilled Chicken, Maple Glazed Salmon, Orangalicious Beef Steak, and Lime Pepper Chicken; mouths in the momstown KW kitchen were watering! Though the prep took a lot longer than expected, we all worked together to prepare one recipe at a time. Once we had one recipe completed we moved on to the next!

Of course to do a Big Cook like this is a big investment in meat and ingredients up front, but it was so worth it and really that money would have been spent on groceries eventually anyway! We all had so much fun, there's nothing quite like cooking with a group of friends, and now we each have 9 prepared meals in our freezers that are marinated and ready to go! Luckily, a local church let us use their kitchen complete with a large island in the middle. Since this Big Cook was such a hit with momstown KW, we're planning to do another. This time featuring our members' own favourite recipes and marinades!

Where would any momstown mom be without their little helper? Sydney came along and helped mix together rice and sugar, invaluable assistance! ;)

And of course this is too great an activity for just momstown KW, look at how much fun the other momstown chapters had doing their own Big Cook!
