Today momstown KW famillies headed out for our annual Shantzholm Pumpkins & Family Farm visit to get in our Fall outdoor activities and to gather some perfect pumpkins! The weather was damp and chilly but that wasn't keeping us home. I recall our trip there last year being a lot warmer but it is late October after all..With moms,dads and kiddies all dressed in their warmest layers and wet weather boots, we hopped on the wagon and grabbed a seat on the straw bales. Since it had been raining all week, the fields were super sloppy and muddy. We were thankful for the wagon "drive-thru" tour of the pumpkin patch and corn maze from Farmer Kevin. You can tell Farmer Kevin is no stranger to the farm, he recognized immediately that a lot of parents were not appropriately dressed for a farm visit after days of rain.
It was also from this comedic and observant Farmer Kevin that we were informed that the lack of rain affected both the pumpkin and corn crops this year. A definite shortage of larger pumpkins and a plethora of short-stalked corn.
After our chilly, bumpy, dry and cozy wagon ride, we headed over to the animal section. This animal section is very interactive! You can pet the sheep, donkey's, cows and piggies. You can even climb into a shelter with a calf -- "sooo cute" as my daughter says. Just be prepared for lots of kisses and slober!
Before we turned into little pumpkin popsicles, we grabbed a little wagon and hiked into the muddy pastures in pursuit of plump pumpkins and pretty pictures. How are these?
To finish off the day, we let the kids play in the playground maze that stays surrounded by bales of hay. A perfect place to keep them contained, busy, warm and burning off the last little bit of energy before heading home for lunchtime :)
