Dinosaurs Days with momstown KW and the Earth Science Museum at the University of Waterloo

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our Discovery Field Trip  this month was to the  Dinosaur Museum at the University of Waterloo's Earth Science Center.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our momstown KW group was treated to a fantastic tour of the museum starting off with the Junior Curator teaching us about different dinosaurs and showing us real bones from long, long ago.

 and amazing fossils!

 

 

 

 

 

Before the demonstration ended we got hands on with the bones, puppets and a cute, interactive Triceratops.

 

 

Then it was down to the mine shaft!

Winter Wonderland Sleigh Ride - Trotting Through the Snow

This hasn’t exactly been a winter wonderland. But luck was on our side the day of the momstown Kitchener-Waterloo horse drawn sleigh ride at Beitz Horse & Carriage Farm.  The ground had a thin coating of snow; enough for two beautiful Belgian horses - Pete and Prince - to guide our sleigh.

And making up for the abundance of snow was a bright sunny day with a bitter cold that reminded us it was indeed winter in KW. 

The momstown KW mamas and their families -bundled in winter wear and snuggled under blankets - set off to enjoy the beautiful winter scenery. Our journey took us through farmland and an active maple syrup farm. We weaved through miles of maple trees that were tapped and ready to collect the yummy liquid gold that will flow in a few short months.  Maybe we will see it at the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival in March?

 

Our trip ended with appreciative pats and hugs for our two guides who had worked up quite a sweat (you would too if you had to drag a bunch of people around) and some delicious hot chocolate.

My days seem to always be filled with activities that keep me on the move. It was nice to be able to slow down and appreciate the season and nature around me.
