Cake Decorating with The Urban Cakery

momstown KW gathered together for one of the yummiest events yet and learned the basics of cake decorating with Christa from The Urban Cakery. Christa taught our moms how to decorate a cake starting with her ever-faithful cake recipe and basic butter cream icing recipe!

The Urban Cakery is a peanut-free bakery that Christa runs from her home when she isn’t chasing around her three children. For the first session, momstown KW learned how to properly ice a cake and how to ‘build a damn’ to contain crumbs and seal layers together. We learned all about the differences between fondant and butter cream icing. She even gave us homework – we had to Practice!

momstown KW rejoined for session two (and we had to bring our homework - an already baked cake). Those who were really ambitious came with it already iced. Christa helped each of us with whatever stage we came prepared for and some of us needed all the help we could get!

What did momstown KW moms take away from this? Well, baking and decorating a cake isn’t as ‘easy’ as it looks and everyone left with a new appreciation for anyone who can decorate a cake!

Easter Eggstravaganza!!

On Good Friday, momstown KW moms had their 2nd annual Easter Eggstravaganza!!

Since this was on Good Friday, it was a great opportunity to make this a family event and let Dads participate too.

All the famillies waited patiently in the coat area of Busy Bees Playground, waiting for me to yell Go!
With their Easter baskets empty and in-hand, they were all set for searching and finding all the Easter eggs they can find.  No limits, no restrictions, no empty eggs.  Just lots of eggs loaded (I wasn't shy with the treats) with goodies for them to find.

Yes, some of the older kids found more eggs faster BUT they shared.  I loved it.  They knew they had more eggs than the little ones and they went around sharing some of their findings.  Even if they had some encouragement from mom & dad, their sharing was still gracious and welcomed.  Even some of the latecomers were welcomed with eggs that were from over-filled pre-schooler baskets!

After all the hunting, it was time for an eggsciting snack!  Who could resist the colourful cupcakes sitting right in the middle of the tables.  Tables low enough for the kids to reach!  I made sure to remind moms & dads alike that Jennifer Lefler photography was waiting in the back to snap professional photos of our little bunnies and that they might want to hold off on the cupcakes.  Not all the kids were okay with the idea of waiting, especially my little Bunny. :)

Thanks to The Urban Cakery for making and baking all these lovely bunny-topped peanut-free cupcakes.  And the icing, not just any old icing, it was Butter Cream icing.  No expense spared here!
After lots of free playtime, picture-taking, cupcake eating, egg hunting and egg decorating, our Easter baskets were full and so were out tummies.  And full tummies around lunch time only means one thing, Tired Teddies.  As the famillies slowly streamed out of Busy Bees, you could see satisfication and sleepiness on all the little bunnies faces'.   A sure sign of yet another successful Easter Eggstravaganza!

Santa Came to momstown!

In December, Santa came to town.....to momstown! And boy did the kids have fun! I am pretty sure Santa did too. The kids all took their turns sharing with Santa their Christmas wishes.  If mommy wasn't busy behind the camera, she was busy checking out what Sway Silver's fingerprint pendants to be added to Momma's Christmas list...

We also got crazy with glue and glitter and make Glitter pine cone ornaments that fit into the holiday season and our December "All That Glitters" theme. So much fun (except for the clean-up).

Without The Urban Cakery, we wouldn't have had these yummy cupcakes to fill our bellies and satisfied our sweet craving.  She even spoiled us with Butter Cream icing!

We even managed to assemble most of Santa's elves onto the stage for their own group photo. Kudo's to Pamela Wideman Photography for getting the kiddies to the stage and capturing our special moments :)

Finally, we gathered all the mommas, papas and children alike into one big happy family group shot.  I love this picture.  For the moms, its a nice group shot.  For me, its a great snapshot of all the famillies that I get to hang out with and the moms that I connect all through the year!
Thank you momstown members of Kitchener-Waterloo for a great party!
