Hulahoop Photography Captures the Essence of Families, Naturally

 The family portrait has definitely evolved from those stiff and stuffy department store studio photos of everyone in their best into a more natural style of photography that captures the essence of a family.

 

Nicola Toon is a two time, International, award winning photographer and the woman behind the lens at Hulahoop Children’s Photography in Cambridge.   Nicola’s philosophy is that the best moments that come out of one of her sessions are the moments in between the ‘cheeses’.   “Nine times out of ten my favourite images from a shoot are the ones where no one is looking at the camera.  My photos are all about connection and if I can capture that split second snuggle or that cheeky look that a toddler gives to his Mama my job is done.  I like to call these the ‘un-moments’ and they are what make a family…them.  “

Nicola also offers a lesser known style of family photography that has her client base buzzing.   “It’s referred to as lifestyle photography and I have to say it’s probably my favourite type of session.  There is just something about capturing a family in their home environment that gives the photos a personal touch that you can’t achieve at an onsite photo session.   Don’t get me wrong.  I love outdoor shoots.   The texture and light is amazing, but there are magical pockets in everyone’s home and they ooze love and comfort and I just find it so easy to shoot there and clients absolutely LOVE the results.”


This year Nicola is also adding a couple of new additions to her photography offering.  Her Simply Studio sessions  are geared towards babies aged 6 months to a year and her Wee Whimsy sessions  deliver the utmost creativity and her unique style to her clients.  “It’s a way for me to deliver my creative vision to clients en mass.  I normally reserve these types of creative shoots for my own kids, but thought this year it would be fun to offer this to clients as well.”
