momstown KW Gets Crafty with Superworm!

Once a month, Scholastic sponsors momstown KW's weekly Laugh & Learn program!
This weekly program is great for any mom with a active family!
Bring out all the kids for a fun filled day of fun and learning!

This month at Laugh & Learn: Tales for Tots we read Superworm, by Julia Donaldson
If you love funny rhymes and brave heros, you will love this book!
Superworm is not your ordinary hero with massive muscles. Nope: he's super skinny.
But not weedy at all. When trouble strikes, this brave worm wriggles to the rescue.
He can turn into a life-saving rope, and squiggle into really tiny spaces.

After a reading this fun story, we made our own planes, trains and automobiles using
different sizes of squares, stickers and crayons!
Thank you again to scholastic for sponsoring momstown's commitment to
literacy and learning! Join us next week for another fun Laugh & Learn!

Once a month at momstown KW ,our momstown Movers program is sponsored by Scholastic Canada.

This month we were given the book " Let It Shine"

A sweet book about summer fun and the coming of autumn.

The book fit well with the monthly creative theme of "deserts".

And so did our craft that followed:

We made sand castles on paper!

After drawing the outline of our castles, we used glue to add fun foam and sparkles

The results was some awesome, blinged-out, art!

We also had social and play time:

Right before this lucky winner took home the book we read:

Fun With Literacy and the Ontario Early Years Center at momstown Movers

Kim, from our local Ontario Early Years Center joined us today at momstown Movers.

momstown Movers is a play and learn group designed for our child members aged 15 months and up.

Part of the cirriculum is having awsome guest speakers like Kim come and visit us.

Kim read us a couple of fun books that focused on rhyming. We  also sang songs where there were fun puppets invovled and even egg shakers too play with. Kim taught the moms about how certian word like "up", "down" and "behind" are good early math words and she even brought a take home kit with a brand new book and information for moms about literacy milestones and services available in the area that can assist in helping our young ones reach those goals.

After all the singing and reading fun, Kim satyed behind to speak with moms about any questions they had while others played and socialized.

What a fantastic day of play and games! Who knew learning could be so fun?

"Split!, Splat!" washes up at Tales for Tots and momstown KW

"Split!, Splat!" was the book we read this month at momstown KW and Tales for Tots.
This fantastic book about rainy day fun was donated by Scholastic Canada

The book about a girl and her dog playing on a rainy day had a rhythm to it. Almost as if you could sing the words!

We made our own rain shakers to go with the book.

We filled washed yogurt containers and filled them with beans, pasta, mini pom-poms and colourful beads. Then we decorated the outside with fun stickers!

The result was a fun toy that sounded like rain on a roof when you shake it. They were a great compliment to our monthly theme of Wet, Wet, Wet and this months book.
Of course, who could forget the draw at the end of the morning.

A lucky brother and sister got to take the book home to read or sing along with their personal rain shakers!

Join us next moth when we read another awesome book form Scholastic Canada.

Scholastic Canada gives away a copy of "Lucky Ducklings" at Tales for Tots and momstown KW

Every month at Tales for Tots, Scholastic Canada donates a book to momstown KW. This book is geared toward a monthly theme.

The theme for April 2013 was "Little Explorers" and the book we read, "Lucky Ducklings" told of a family of ducks out exploring a little town in which they live. But, oh no, something happens to the 5 little ducklings. Can the people of the town come together to help them out?

We read the book at a local Chapters and have a chance to do a craft for the momstown Monet program of momstown KW.

Chapters has a nice childrens area equipped with table and chairs perfect for our reading and  craft time.

After reading the book we made a paper duck craft of the 5 little ducklings in the book:
Pippin, Bippin, Tippin, Dippin and Little Joe.

Then we did a draw:

And this lucky winner got to take home a copy of this cute book as donated by Scholastic Canada.

Join us again next month for another fun morning of reading and crafts where we embrace our new monthly theme of "Wet, wet, wet". An of course another fabulous book from Scholastic Canada.
