Kitchener-Waterloo Moms & Tots Bake with Nutella at momstown's Junior Chef

Kitchener-Waterloo moms and tots had the pleasure of getting together in the Kitchener Marketplace this week for our Nutella sponsored Junior Chef program.  With jars of Nutella, all our baking ingredients and our recipe for Nutella Breakfast Bars, momstown Kitchener-Waterloo was all aproned and ready to bake!

The kids were anxious to dig in and get mixing all the ingredients together so we every tot was in charge of one ingredient.  They could hardly wait for their turn to come!  With mom helping measure with them, they carefully portioned their part and then added it to the mix.  We chose to make Nutella Breakfast Bars since we could all share them and even take some home for a treat for dad too.

We divided into 2 groups, one preparing the wet ingredients, and the other preparing the dry ingredients.  Then we came together to combine both mixes.  The boys weren't shy about jumping into help with the measuring and stirring.  We needed their muscles to ensure the batter was blended well.
Mixing, mixing, mixing.  I love how well the boys worked together to make sure no ingredient was left unstirred, or stuck to the side of the bowl.  They were great multi-taskers, chewing on a candy-cane while stirring with the other hand!  And the girls sat back and watched the boys take the lead with their breakfast squares.

While our breakfast bars were baking in the over, we had fun with strawberries, whip cream and chocolate chips, creating cute like Strawberry Santa's!   So easy to make, so cute to look at and so yummy to eat :)

Before we knew it, our bars were done and we were ready for the best part!  The kids anxiously dipped their spoons in the Nutella jar and spread it on top of their invidual squares of their baked bars.  Because the bars were still warm, the Nutella softened easily and almost melted over their baked creations.  It was one spread for the bar and one scoop into their mouth with Nutella.  Each family was lucky enough to go home with their own jar of Nutella to enjoy, plus recipe cards to re-create this recipe  and a few others

I have to say that this recipe for the Nutella Breakfast Bars contains a very small amount of sugar, and makes a great healthy and nutritious snack.  We definitely created some new Nutella fans at this Junior Chef!
