Kitchener-Waterloo Moms & Tots Bake with Nutella at momstown's Junior Chef

Kitchener-Waterloo moms and tots had the pleasure of getting together in the Kitchener Marketplace this week for our Nutella sponsored Junior Chef program.  With jars of Nutella, all our baking ingredients and our recipe for Nutella Breakfast Bars, momstown Kitchener-Waterloo was all aproned and ready to bake!

The kids were anxious to dig in and get mixing all the ingredients together so we every tot was in charge of one ingredient.  They could hardly wait for their turn to come!  With mom helping measure with them, they carefully portioned their part and then added it to the mix.  We chose to make Nutella Breakfast Bars since we could all share them and even take some home for a treat for dad too.

We divided into 2 groups, one preparing the wet ingredients, and the other preparing the dry ingredients.  Then we came together to combine both mixes.  The boys weren't shy about jumping into help with the measuring and stirring.  We needed their muscles to ensure the batter was blended well.
Mixing, mixing, mixing.  I love how well the boys worked together to make sure no ingredient was left unstirred, or stuck to the side of the bowl.  They were great multi-taskers, chewing on a candy-cane while stirring with the other hand!  And the girls sat back and watched the boys take the lead with their breakfast squares.

While our breakfast bars were baking in the over, we had fun with strawberries, whip cream and chocolate chips, creating cute like Strawberry Santa's!   So easy to make, so cute to look at and so yummy to eat :)

Before we knew it, our bars were done and we were ready for the best part!  The kids anxiously dipped their spoons in the Nutella jar and spread it on top of their invidual squares of their baked bars.  Because the bars were still warm, the Nutella softened easily and almost melted over their baked creations.  It was one spread for the bar and one scoop into their mouth with Nutella.  Each family was lucky enough to go home with their own jar of Nutella to enjoy, plus recipe cards to re-create this recipe  and a few others

I have to say that this recipe for the Nutella Breakfast Bars contains a very small amount of sugar, and makes a great healthy and nutritious snack.  We definitely created some new Nutella fans at this Junior Chef!

Kitchener-Waterloo momstown Moms Potluck & Picnic with Nutella

Nutella knows how important breakfast is to every child - they sponsored our Buddies Brunch with FREE samples and even a grand prize giveaway for one lucky mom.  Assuming you don't have a nut allergy in your house, you can use Nutella to create a healthy breakfast.  Its a staple in our house, we love Nutella on toast, Nutella and peanut butter in a wrap, and Nutella on waffles, etc....

Nutella encouraged momstown.ca communities across Canada to have a Buddies Brunch Picnic, Potluck style!  And seriously, I don't why we didn't do this Potluck thing sooner.  momstown KW mamas came out, in masses, with large quantities of super yummy food.  Some healthy choices, some sweet, some not-so-healthy choices and some salty.  We had a feast! This kids even got to scoop out some of this non-traditional trail mix and sample it out of their little dixie cups.

Once all the food was spread out, there was no doubt that this had to be the first order of business at our picnic brunch.  Food first, fun with our teddy's and buddies later!  This was a great chance for us moms to take a moment, to sit with our children and discuss the importance of having a breakfast (or brunch!) together.

After enjoying all our snacks and treats, we headed to the craft table to dress some colourful teddy bears - the kids could choose their favourite colour for their bear and then mix and match for outfit and hat colours.  Glue some googly eyes on and we had fun foam teddy bears all dressed for our picnic!

Once we had our teddy bears all dressed and assembled, we got busy playing teddy bear games with the parachute and of course, bouncing them around.  "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Touch the Ground"... got us all warmed up for parachute play! Then we settled on top of the parachute for some Teddy Bear story-time.  We enjoyed Brown Bear, Brown Bear and then the Big Bear Hug books, but full of colour with a great message.

momstown KW moms were thrilled with their FREE goody bags filled with Nutella samples, cookie cutters and cute buttons reminding them to always Love Breakfast!  Even the kids were super excited about their gift bags and couldn't wait to dig into them!  .... or show them off :)

Congratulations to Jacyln, our grand prize winner of the Nutella Backpack filled with lots of Nutella, more cookie cutters, pens and notepads! A very handy backpack for a mom with her hands always full :)
Even the little munchkins enjoyed the fun of the picnic - I couldn't resist including these pictures.....
What do you get when you get a curious little guy about his gift bag and the jar of Nutella inside?  A very cute chocolate mustache and one happy little tummy!

And, we will defnitely be doing many more potluck picnics...
