momstown KW Blasts Off with Art and Play Program

Once a month, momstown KW meets for Art and Play there are games and activities structured for busy toddlers and pre-schoolers, while still keeping the babies busy too! It's the perfect playgroup for moms with children at any age and stage!

This month we met at the Ontario Early Years Center to embrace our theme of Space.

We first sang a few songs about stars, the moon and outer space too.

Then it was time for crafts. We made rocket ships:

We used paper tubes and covered them with construction paper. Then made 3 triangles, 1 for the top and 2 for the wings. Finally we added our own special designs before blasting off into space.

We also had a great time playing with each other in the center while our glue dried.

It was a great day of song, crafts and play!

It's True, We DO a Lot!

Yes, its true, momstown Kitchener-Waterloo does offer a lot of things to do!  It's not a gimmick, sales pitch or lure. Its a fact that there is a mimimum of 7 events per week, and 30+ events in any given month.  Yep, no joke!

Wondering how the calendar could be so full?  Well, momstown Kitchener-Waterloo offers playgroups, book clubs, track walking, mall strolling, parkdates, craft events/days, field trips, meet & greets,  and yes, some playdates. And that's only naming a few.

On top of all that, we have a variety of events that cater to just mom, appropriately called Mom's Nights Out.  Without our kiddies in tow, we are having supper together, Mommy Book Club, Mommy Networking Club, educational seminars and how-to classes.

Dad is important too, even at momstown, and here in Kitchener-Waterloo, we have family craft days and popular Holiday parties that even the most masculine dads like to attend.

Our ideas are endless for quality, fun and valuable events that are supported by an educational cirriculum created by momstown.ca for all momstown chapters across Canada.  And starting in May, Moms will have their very own Mom Cirriculum too!
For even more crafty ideas, check out the momstown.ca Arts & Crafts blog!

How Important is momstown.ca to You?

Okay, I have to start off by saying that I think this is the coolest thing.  A chance for momstown to gather some honest, organic feed back that will hopefully reinforce the momstown motto, Neighbourhood Moms. Connected.

The University of Waterloo is interested in learning about how momstown has affected its momstown Kitchener-Waterloo members and the impact momstown has had on their motherhood experience.  Since momstown offers an online and offline component to its moms, this makes us truly unique and sets us apart from other locally-based "moms groups".

Diana and Caitlin are offering childcare for the moms while they are conducting the 1 hour voluntary interview.  And, they get to go home with a free gift!!  All this for just sharing how important momstown.ca is to us.
Are you a momstown member and are interested in participating in this wonderful study?  Contact Caitlin today at cmmulcah@uwaterloo.ca

This honestly doesn't happen very often.  In 14 months, we have not offered a membership sale here in Kitchener-Waterloo, except at local trade shows.  So, it was time, to let our members and subscribers to have a limited time to purchase their momstown membership at a discount.
Our 6 month memberships are $30 and 1 year just $45 so this is a chance for moms to jump in and buy their 1 year for the price of 6 months.  Sounds like a BOGO sale almost, buy 6 months and get another 6 months FREE!!!  Why didn't I think of that sooner??
This sale ends Thursday January 20th at midnight, so don't wait!

Welcome to the Jungle!

July is our Jungle month and so we headed of to the Brantford Twin Valley Zoo. Even the downpour of rain didnt' stop us! Our first stop was at the Goat petting area. We learned that this baby goat was just born the night before, so cute. The poor little guy wasn't strong enough to lift his head yet.

As we moved along, we saw zebras, all kinds of monkeys and fed some deer.

Then, we strolled along to where the cat family lives. The White Siberian Tiger was beautiful and so was the lazy leopard. Our last stop was the bears since it was starting to rain and kids were getting hungry.

With the raining coming down harder, we headed for shelter which coincidentally was also the Creature Show! Snakes, lizards, tarantula's and fox were some of the animals available for show and pet. I wasn't up for the petting part but the kids sure loved it! Join us when we go to the African Lion Safari in August.

Fun in the Sun

On Friday June 25, we packed our picnic lunches, broke out our finest bathing attire and hit the 'beach'.   After a week of rainy weather we were more than ready for some sunshine!

Spread out around the pool at the Nith River Campground, we enjoyed our lunch and had some play time.  And when the air finally warmed up a bit, we slathered on our sunscreen and jumped in the pool.

The water took a bit of getting used to, but once we adjusted we had a great time splashing and lounging around in the water.  The pool floatie was a hit with all the little ones and the older ones had a blast with the beach ball and at the gigantic playground next to the pool.

Once we got dried off, we let the kids play a bit more while the momstown bathing beauties caught some rays before packing up to take the little ones home for a much needed nap.

A special thanks to the Nith River Campground for letting us use their pool and playground for the day - we had so much fun!

Come out and join us for our next beach day on July 23rd and don't forget to check the Upcoming Events page to see what else we have in store!

Balloons, BBQ and Big Celebrations

On Saturday June 12, we celebrated new community ownership in front of the Little Tot Spot in Tannery District downtown. And boy did we celebrate!! Even with the inclement weather, we had a fabulous turnout. I was so busy talking and serving cake that I couldn't even take pictures! Thankfully, Leanne from our Guelph chapter and her family were prepared with their camera.

Take a look at this view inside the Little Tot Spot:

For everyone that turned out we had, entertainers, tattoos, sidewalk activities, seed planting, vendors, goody bags and so much more!

If you missed out, join us next year when we celebrate our anniversary!
