momstown KW Painted the Pond at our Art and Play

Fishes, ducks and turtles!
Our educational theme for August is On the Pond.  Everytime I see this theme I think of the movie "On Golden Pond" with Jane Fonda.. a great childhood movie memory.  (Now I am dating myself).  Alas, I digress... and back to our Art and Play program for August!

We have lots of girls here at momstown Kitchener-Waterloo so it was nice to have the boys out to play today :)  They weren't shy about getting dirty, full of paint, playing together, and even pretending to be turtles.

We quickly got busy making colourful handprint fish, with fancy tails and big smiles!  We used our handprints for the fish tails, and then stickers, glitter glue, markers and paint to customize our fish.  Although these fish don't swim, they sure stand out!

Then the boys got busy on the mural paper painting.  We used ducks, turtles, snails and of course, our hands to stamp away, creating our very own pond on paper.  These little guys thought it was just awesome being able to stamp away, while painting themselves, all over their canvas.  They were even really good at sharing and helping each other :)

Thank goodness we had lots and lots of Huggies Simply Wipes on hand to help clean up the berry blue mess on this little guy!  He thought he was super clever and cute with this paint all over him, and we thought so too.  I love it when moms let their little ones get right into their art, and get dirty!
Thanks again Huggies!

Once we were all cleaned up, we decided to get dirty again, but in a different way.  We dropped down to the ground and got busy with some Pretend Play.  We put on a "turtle shell" and pretended to waddle on like a turtle, being careful not to let our turtle shell fall off.  Moms had to get involved too and encourage the little Turtles to move and boy did we have a laugh.  This activity was so much fun and was great for some hearty laughs.  I had tears coming out of my eyes!  What turtle troopers they were :)
We had such a great time pretending, painting and playing in the pond for our Art & Play! Join us for our next Art & Play program in September when we celebrate everything Firetrucks!
