The inspiration for our Art and Play this September was Tropicana! momstown.ca and Tropicana banded together to raise awareness and support for the Breakfast for Learning program through their Tropicana Tree of Giving. 31% of elementary school kids go to school without breakfast! The Tree of Giving website holds a virtual orange tree with loads of oranges. Visitors pick/click on an orange and then a serving of OJ is donated. Each time you pick an orange, you get entered into a contest. You can pick an orange daily. Click here to pick an orange right now!
The Art & Play program at momstown Kitchener-Waterloo is one of our most popular and one of moms' favourites every month. Moms and kids alike love the Picasso's in the Park (finger-painting) element of this program in the summer. The kids have a chance to be so creative as we provide different mediums for them to paint with, and also lots of fun tools we use too. Like.... Oranges for stamps!
The kids loved used this tactile tool to stamp with and its fragrance made everything that much sweeter. And of course, because its food afterall, some little munchkins wanted to eat their oranges, full of paint all!
After we cleaned up for all our sweet orange painting, we headed over to the parachute for some fun Orange Bouncing and Wheels on the Firetruck. We didn't want to forget that our planned educational theme for September was Firetrucks! We bounced our oranges around and then sang about all the different sounds we hear coming from a Firetruck, honk honk....
All this fun activity was making the little ones tired (or ready for the splash pad & playground), so we settled down on the parachute for story time. The pop-up Firetrucks story was not only a hit with mom, but with the kids too. They loved this book so much that they requested I read it twice!
After a busy morning, my little helper loaded up our cart of everything fun and playful, and pulled it along to the car. I couldn't resist including this cute picture :)
Thanks Tropicana for letting us help support your cause, as moms we know how important that first meal of the day is!
